Amanda Palmer "Oasis"

I already posted this amazing track a few months ago, but now mrs. Palmer has some problems getting air-play in the UK because she's, apparently, making fun of rape and abortions. She writes a blog post about it here: on Abortion, Rape, Art and Humor.

Thought I'd at least give her some 'air-play' here one more time, now they've made a video:

When I got to the party, they gave me a forty
and I must've been thristy 'cause I drank it so quickly

When I got to the bedroom there was somebody waiting
and it isn't my fault that the barbarian raped me

When I went to get tested I brought along my best friend
Melissa Mahoney who had once been molested

And she knew how to get there, she knew all the nurses
they were all very friendly but the test came back positive

Oh I've seen better days but I don't care
Oh I just sent a letter in the mail

When I got my abortion I brought along my boyfriend
we got there an hour before the appointment

And outside the building there were these annoying
fundamentalist Christians we tried to ignore them

Oh, I've had better days but I don't care
Oasis got my letter in the mail

When vacation was over the word was all over
that I was a crack whore Melissa had told them

And so now we're not talking
except we have tickets to see Blur in October
and I think we're still going

Oh, I've seen better days but I don't care
Oh, I just got a letter in the mail
Oasis sent a photograph
It's autographed and everything
Melissa's gonna wet herself I swear

Amanda Palmer "Oasis"

Here's a freaky track from the forthcoming Amanda Palmer album.... it's all about...uh... Blur, Oasis, rape and abortions. Oh, those brit-pop days.

Also a very original and moving song about, as Morrissey called them, "the songs that saved your life".

Neil Gaiman's "I Google You"

The Neil Gaiman song "I Google You" is now online, sung by Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls), with lyrics and all. I got the lyrics from this thread, where they were posted by His Neilness himself.

(The song was orignally written for Peri Lyons, and her version can be found on her Myspace page.)

I Google you
late at night when I don’t know what to do
I find photos
you’ve forgotten
you were in
put up by your friends

I Google you
when the day is done and everything is through
I read your journal
that you kept
that month in France
I’ve watched you dance

And I’m pleased your name is practically unique
it’s only you and
a would-be PhD in Chesapeake
who writes papers on
the structure of the sun
I’ve read each one

I know that I
should let you fade
but there’s that box
and there’s your name
somehow it never makes the pain
grow less or fade or disappear
I think that I should save my soul and
I should crawl back in my hole
But it’s too easy just to fold
and type your name again
I fear
I google you
Whenever I’m alone and feeling blue
And each scrap of information
That I gather
says you’ve got somebody new
And it really shouldn’t matter
ought to blow up my computer
but instead….
I google you
