"Gaston Lagaffe" - a short introduction

Gaston Lagaffe is a classic gag-based Euro-comic by the legendary Belgian cartoonist Franquin. My Gaston books were among my favorite things in the world when I was 11-13 years old.

Gaston is a lazy office boy who never gets any work done at the office, mainly because he's busy with his bizarre inventions, his pet animals, and his numerous other hobbies, which include taking long naps that can last whole working days, sometimes longer. The jokes in the series are fairly predictable, but the cartooning is so great and the character is so likeable that it's impossible not to have a soft spot for the series.

Only a few Gaston strips have ever been translated into English, in a Fantagraphics anthology years ago, but someone has put a few unofficially translated strips up online.
