Inventions and cultural artifacts Part I

I'll slowly start by establishing some historical and cultural context for the decade.

  • The game Monopoly was introduced in 1935. Here's a pic of the first edition:

More info about Monopoly at The Game Museum.

  • Volkswagen Beetle was introduced in the late 1930s. In 1933, Adolf Hitler had submitted sketches to Ferdinand Porsche of a proposed "Volks-Wagen" ("People's Car"), a basic vehicle that should be capable of transporting two adults and three children at a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).

  • The world's tallest building (for the next 43 years) was constructed, opening as the Empire State Building on May 3, 1931 in New York. The TV spire wasn't added until the early 50's, which is why King Kong had room to climb around on the top.
